MA Jewellery presents a lecture series on ornament

ornament. beyond adornment - A series of lectures by MA Jewellery

"To be human is to create systems of ornament" (Colomina and Wigley, paraphrased), having the unique ability to put thoughts into symbols. ornament is material and theoretical, general and specific. ornament has the capacity for (re)invention – formal, material, and conceptual variation.

The series examines the concept of ornament in a larger art and design, historical and sociocultural context, investigating ornament as an approach to the cultural, psychological, and symbolic properties of jewellery and object.

In dialogue with 5 visiting professionals from different disciplines with 5 different perspectives on ornament, we begin to construct a theoretical framework that encompasses all forms of art, jewellery and object making.

Afterwards, the MAJ invites everyone to Drinks & Talks with the speakers.
The international lectures are in English.
